BRIC JazzFest culminates in a three-night marathon with ensembles performing staggered sets in multiple spaces throughout BRIC House. You can move freely among performances and catch as many artists as you like each night—all happening in the state-of-the-art Ballroom, the relaxed Stoop overlooking the current exhibition in the Gallery at BRIC House, and our intimate jazz club in the BRIC Artist Studio.
BRIC JazzFest Marathon Night 2 will feature Meshell Ndegeocello, Cyrus Chestnut Trio, Keyon Harrold, The Jazz Passengers, Xenia Rubinos, Camila Meza, Michael Sarian & The Chabones, and Yasser Tejeda & Palotré. More information about each performer and set times are listed below.

Yasser Tejeda & Palotré
7:30-8:30PM
Originating in Dominican Republic and now based in New York, Yasser Tejeda & Palotré is an Afro-Dominican fusion group that blends traditional folkloric roots music from Dominican Republic with jazz, rock, and Caribbean rhythms. Palotré's debut album, Mezclansa, (2009) was dubbed one of the "100 Essential Recordings of Dominican Music" by Dominican Republic's Association of Art Writers (Acroarte). Currently, they are finishing their second album which will be released in the fall 2018.
Michael Sarian & The Chabones

Michael Sarian is a trumpeter and composer whose work has been heard throughout the United States, South America, and Europe. Introduced to music early on, Sarian has performed and toured professionally with several groups, from progressive rock bands in empty basements and 12 piece disco bands playing by the beach in Uruguay to big bands at the Teatro Colón and his own shows at legendary NYC jazz clubs, and everything in between.
Keyon Harrold

Keyon Harrold was born and raised in Ferguson, MO, the St. Louis suburb that tore into America’s national consciousness in 2014 with the police shooting of Michael Brown and the bitter protests and riots that followed. Growing up as one of 16 children in a family that prioritized music and community across generations, Harrold released his solo debut, Introducing Keyon Harrold, in 2009 and then won wide acclaim for his trumpet performances in Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead. His recent album The Mugician (2017) is a portmanteau of “musician” and “magician, a nod to a nickname Cheadle bestowed upon the young virtuoso, and it’s an apt descriptor for a record that pushes beyond the traditional boundaries of jazz trumpet.
Camila Meza

Equally prized as a vocalist, guitarist and composer, Camila Meza has brought a sound full of warmth, intricacy and rhythmic clarity to the New York jazz scene ever since her arrival from Santiago, Chile in 2009. She draws inspiration from jazz, South American music, and American popular songs of many eras and genres with her work, as showcased with her 2016 album Traces. "With her strikingly clear voice and commanding fluency on guitar," (The Mercury News) she has uplifted audiences worldwide with her rare combination of talents: assured and beautiful singing, highly advanced guitar, and vividly colorful and melodic songwriting.
Xenia Rubinos

Visionary singer, multi instrumentalist and songwriter Xenia Rubinos uses her soulful voice to lead a genre defying live band pulling from R&B to hip hop to jazz influences, all delivered with a New York punk-funk abandon. Her second full length album, Black Terry Cat (2016), was released by ANTI-Records and garnered much critical acclaim. Known for her captivating stage performances, Rubinos "draws her smooth, layered vocals from R&B and her rhythms from hip-hop, rumba and son" (NPR) and her powerhouse vocals been featured on albums by legendary sonic adventurers Deerhoof and labelmate Son Little.
The Jazz Passengers

The Jazz Passengers are a fantastical fusion of post-bop and musical comedy, once called a “perverse mainstream…hard-bop group as imagined by Frank Zappa.” (Bob Blumenthal, Boston Globe, 1989) Saxophonist Roy Nathanson and trombonist Curtis Fowlkes founded the band in 1987 and The Jazz Passengers have toured extensively since the 1990s, traversing the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia, and having played at major festivals and in clubs and concerts across the globe.
Cyrus Chestnut Trio

Composer, pianist and educator Cyrus Chestnut is a musical force that utilizes his classical, gospel, and jazz influences to entertain and capture his audiences. Born in 1963, Chestnut honed his craft with some of the legendary musicians in the business, including Jon Hendricks, Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Regina Cater, Chick Corea, Jimmy Heath, James Moody, Joe Williams, Isaac Hayes, Betty Carter, and Dizzy Gillespie, to name a few. With more than a dozen studio albums in his discography, Cyrus continues to experiment with his familiar integration of jazz, spiritual and classical sound that reflect his heritage and identity as an artist. His next release, Kaleidoscope, will be out in August 2018 and features newly arranged jazz interpretations of classical pieces by Debussy, Ravel, Mozart, and Satie.
Meshell Ndegeocello

Bassist, singer, and songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello has been defying convention since her 1993 debut on Madonna's Maverick Records label, and continues to do so today. Ndegeocello has since recorded a dozen albums of "beautiful, subversive music that transitions into jazz, folk, blues and reggae, and she's collaborated with such industry icons as the Rolling Stones, Jack DeJohnette, John Mellencamp and her Madgesty herself." (Billboard) The latest album, Ventriloquism (2018), has the hallmarks of all of her past work—lush and investigative, subversive and sublime. But with this album, she pays tribute to her diverse influences and covers the music of artists such as George Clinton, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Sade, and more. Talking about recording this album during a tumultuous time, Ndegeocello says, “I looked for a way to make something that was light while things around me were so dark, a musical place to go that reminded me of another, brighter time.” A portion of the profits from this album, which came out in March, will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union.
Now in its fourth year, BRIC JazzFest includes film, dance, panel discussions, workshops, and a three-stage, three-night live music marathon that celebrates some of the most exciting global legends in jazz, and groundbreaking new jazz artists from Brooklyn and beyond.

Venue Information:
BRIC House is Brooklyn’s cultural living room: a 40,000 square foot multi-disciplinary arts and media complex in the former Strand Theatre, where emerging and established artists can create work that deepens their practice and engages the diverse communities of the borough.
Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building.
